Some pieces get forgotten in a pocket and end up being used all day. This 30-gram neck gaiter is one of them: worn on an early-morning mountaineering approach, pulled up over the nose when the wind sweeps across a pass, then lowered onto the shoulders as soon as the slope steepens.
The back of the neck and lower face take the full force of the sun at altitude, even more so with the glare reflecting off the snow. The fabric has a UPF 50+ rating, the highest level on the textile protection scale, and covers these areas without needing to reapply sunscreen every two hours.
At 110 g/m², the knit stays lightweight and dries quickly after a sweaty climb or a brief shower. With 27% elastane, it stretches without digging in, can be worn as a headband or lightweight balaclava, and packs into a ball in a jacket pocket.

PERFORMANCES
In the mountains, you burn faster than you think, especially on the neck and ears, the two areas we always forget to apply sunscreen to. The fabric of SUMSNOOD SAUVAGE is rated UPF 50+, the highest level on the textile protection scale: it lets through less than one-fiftieth of ultraviolet radiation. In practical terms, you can spend a full day on a glacier or climbing in blazing sun without having to reapply sunscreen to the covered areas. This protection doesn't come from a surface treatment that fades with washing, but from the construction of the recycled polyester jersey itself, which is dense despite weighing just 110 g/m². So it remains effective wash after wash, season after season.
Thirty grams is the weight of a cereal bar. So there’s really no need to think twice about bringing it along, even on an outing when the weather looks clear. The 110 g/m² jersey does two things: it’s thin enough to scrunch into a ball in a jacket pocket, and technical enough to dry quickly. After a sustained climb, when the fabric has soaked up moisture, it dries again within a few minutes during a break, instead of staying cold and clammy against your skin like a cotton neck gaiter would. The 27% elastane completes the package: the knit stretches in every direction and springs back into shape, without becoming loose around the neck over repeated outings.
Fit & support
SUMSNOOD SAUVAGE has an Active Fit cut, snug around the neck without feeling tight, in a unisex one-size-fits-all design. The knit fabric, with 27% elastane, contours to the neck and head: it stays in place when pulled up over the nose on a ski descent or worn under a helmet, without slipping with every turn of the head.
Worn as a simple tube around the neck, doubled up for extra warmth, pulled up as a headband, or worn over the hair, it adapts to the time of day. It slips under a jacket without adding bulk at the collar and doesn't get in the way of zipping up or wearing a backpack.
Coupe Active Fit

Make your equipment last
