TETRAS: the 3-layer jacket designed for mountain hiking

A hike that starts in sunshine and ends in a downpour is routine in mid- and high-altitude mountains. TETRAS was built for this scenario: 460 g on your back, 3-layer protection with 20,000 mm waterproofing, and RET<13 breathability that keeps pace on the climb.

Pockets that stay accessible with a backpack on

The two zipped handwarmer pockets are positioned to remain accessible with a buckled harness or a snug backpack waist belt, a detail you appreciate from the very first approach. They have water-repellent 3 mm YKK Aquaguard Coil zippers, while the main zipper is a 5 mm two-way YKK Vislon.

Protection that lasts

All seams are sealed with heat-bonded tape, the large helmet-compatible hood adjusts at three points around the collarbones and at the back of the head, and the waist drawcord and wrist Velcro tabs let you adjust the seal against the wind without taking off your gloves.

PERFORMANCES

Sympatex membrane, 20,000 mm, RET < 13, recycled polyester

480 g for 20,000 mm of water column: the jacket you take along without hesitation

The best rain jacket is the one you have in your pack. At 480 g in size M, the TETRAS is the lightest of our membrane jackets, discreet enough to bring along even when the sky looks clear. What you save in weight, you don’t lose in protection: its Sympatex membrane withstands 20,000 mm of water column, the water pressure it can take before a drop gets through. The outer fabric, thinner than the one used in our mountaineering jackets, explains most of the weight difference. The membrane also wicks away perspiration, with a RET below 13—just as important as rain when hiking: on a mountain pass, you sweat more than you get rained on. Two underarm vents finish the job when the pace picks up.

Seams sealed with heat-applied tape

Heat-sealed tape, the invisible detail that makes it waterproof

Turn the jacket inside out and look at the seams: each one is covered with a thin strip of heat-sealed tape. It may seem like a minor detail, but it’s what distinguishes a truly waterproof jacket from one that’s almost waterproof. Sewing fabric means piercing it hundreds of times, and every needle hole is a potential entry point for water. The tape seals these holes one by one along the entire length of the seams. It’s a time-consuming and costly manufacturing step, so many limit it to the areas most exposed to the elements. On the TETRAS, every seam is taped, without exception. The zippers follow the same principle: a central YKK Aquaguard Vislon 5 mm two-way zipper, and YKK Aquaguard 3 mm zippers on the pockets and vents.

TETRAS, the third layer of the Lagoped system

Did you know? The rock ptarmigan, our totem animal, changes its plumage with the seasons: white in winter to blend into the snow, it fluffs up its feathers to trap warm air when the temperature drops. It constantly adapts, never wearing more than it needs.

TETRAS follows the same principle: it serves as the outer layer, the third layer, keeping out rain and wind while letting sweat escape. It’s worn over an insulating mid-layer, such as a fleece or lightweight down jacket, which in turn goes over a technical base layer next to the skin. Its Active Fit cut is designed for layering, and at 460 g, it’s easy to pack even on days when the sky looks clear.

Fit & support

TETRAS Active Fit: room for layers, not excess fabric

TETRAS Women is cut in an Active Fit, midway between snug and loose: close enough to the body to avoid flapping in the wind on a ridge, with enough room for a fleece or lightweight down jacket underneath without pulling at the shoulders or restricting arm movement.

An adjustable fit on the move

The waist drawcord and wrist hook-and-loop tabs can be adjusted one-handed throughout the day, depending on whether you're climbing in shelter or heading into the wind. The large hood fits over a helmet and adjusts at three points, at the collarbones and the back of the head, so it follows your head's movements without blocking your field of vision.

Coupe Active Fit

SIZE GUIDE

Make your equipment last
