KIIRUNA2: the 25L/36L modular backpack for ski touring and mountaineering

On a ski touring trip, the volume you need when you leave the car isn’t the volume you want to carry to the summit. KIIRUNA2 solves this with an adjustable capacity of 25 to 36 liters: expand it for the loaded ascent, compress it for the descent.

Carry skis and ice axes without improvising

Two aluminum ice axe holders and an upper and lower vertical ski carry system with cam-lock straps let you switch to carry mode without spending ten minutes untangling elastic cords. The four side attachment straps take care of the rest: rope, crampons, a jacket for breaks.

Gear access designed for the outdoors

The kayak-style closure with a metal buckle fastens quickly, even with gloves on. The side opening gives access to the bottom of the pack without emptying everything into the snow, the zipped inner pocket keeps small items in place, and the dedicated hydration tube port, secured on the right shoulder strap, means you don’t have to stop for a drink.

A volume adjustable from 25 to 36 liters

A mountain pack should adapt to the outing, not the other way around. The KIIRUNA2 adjusts its volume from 25 to 36 liters thanks to a kayak-style closure: a roll-top system that you tighten more or less depending on the load. An aluminum hook locks everything in place: metal rather than plastic, because it’s the part you handle most, with gloves on, and it needs to withstand the cold. In practice, the same pack goes with you on a day hike and on a climb with technical gear, without a half-empty pack bouncing around. Its main fabric is 184 g/m² ECONYL recycled polyamide, woven and dyed in Italy, and the shoulder strap padding is made in France.

The KIIRUNA2 holds two ice axes, making it clearly suited to committed mountaineering rather than just hiking. The lower attachments are made of aluminum, by design: plastic becomes brittle in the cold, exactly when you need it. The ski carrier attaches vertically at the top and bottom with cam-lock straps that are quick to adjust while wearing gloves. The pack also opens via a water-repellent side zipper, giving you access to the bottom without having to empty everything out—a detail you appreciate when looking for your down jacket beneath the rest of your gear. The back padding can be removed and used as insulation at the bivouac. The pack weighs 1,045 g and has a 49 cm medium-length back panel.

KIIRUNA2 is a unisex backpack in one size, designed with a medium 49 cm back length that suits most body types, from a petite female frame to a broader male build.

Adjusts to your day

The hip belt is adjustable and sits on a hip panel that keeps it in place when the pack is loaded. The sternum strap adjusts vertically, making all the difference for a female chest or simply to find the right fit beneath a climbing harness. Tighten it on the descent, loosen it on the ascent, without having to take off the pack.
