LAGOPEYE CAT3: recycled plastic sunglasses designed for the mountains

On a glacier, a spring snowfield, or on the way back from a via ferrata in full sun, sunglasses are the first piece of gear you take out of your pack and the last you put away. LAGOPEYE CAT3 was designed for this kind of routine, with the idea that an accessory you use every day should last a long time and be easy to repair.

Category 3 lenses with a removable sun shield

The Category 3 tint covers the vast majority of outings at altitude as well as days in the city. The sun shield clips onto the top of the frame to block low-angle light when climbing toward the sun, and can be removed in one motion when the light fades or you move into the shade of a slope.

A frame designed to be recycled

The frame is made from recycled plastic sourced from industrial waste and colored throughout: the color won’t flake off over time or with rubbing against your pack. It is also assembled without screws, making it easier to disassemble and recycle at the end of its life. The Lagoped logo is marked on the temples.

PERFORMANCES

Category 3 glasses

Category 3 lenses for hiking and summer mountain outings

A sunglass lens category indicates how much light it filters, on a scale from 0 to 4. The LAGOPEYE CAT3 comes with category 3 lenses, the standard tint for mountain outings and hiking: they significantly reduce the bright light on a high-altitude trail or beach while still letting you see the terrain and obstacles. They’re a good choice for most summer outings, from the lake to the mountain pass, and can still be used for daytime driving. For glaciers or snowy high mountains, where reflected light is much stronger, choose the LAGOPEYE CAT4 instead. If glare from water or snow bothers you, the LAGOPEYE CAT3POLA adds a polarizing filter.

Frame made from recycled plastic, colored throughout, screw-free assembly

A recycled plastic frame, screw-free, dyed throughout

The LAGOPEYE frames are made from recycled plastic sourced from industrial plastic offcuts, and the sunglasses are made in France. Three design choices make them durable. First, they are dyed throughout: the color is not a coating applied to the surface, so it won't flake off from rubbing against the inside of a bag. Next, they are assembled without any screws, eliminating the weak point of hinges that come loose and making them easier to recycle at the end of their life. Finally, a removable sun shield protects the sides when light comes from all directions. The whole thing weighs just 28 g on your nose, light enough to forget about for an entire day.

Fit & support

Fit and comfort of the LAGOPEYE CAT3: a unisex frame weighing 28 grams

LAGOPEYE CAT3 is a unisex frame offered in one size, designed to fit both narrow and wider faces. Weighing just 28 grams, it’s barely noticeable on a long day of walking and won’t leave marks on the bridge of your nose after a few hours.

A sun shield you can add or remove depending on the light

The removable sun shield attaches to the top of the frame to block light coming over the lenses, typically when climbing into the sun or on snow. Remove it when you no longer need it, so you can wear the same pair from the glacier all the way back down to the valley. The slim, straight temples fit comfortably under a beanie or helmet headband.
