LAGOPEYE CAT4: glacier sunglasses designed to last and be recycled

On a glacier, glare can turn a beautiful day into an eye hazard. LAGOPEYE CAT4 is designed for this specific situation, with category 4 lenses and removable side shields that block side light on long outings across snowfields or ice.

Recycled plastic colored throughout

The frame is made from recycled plastic sourced from industrial plastic waste. The color runs throughout the material: a scratch or rub against a bag won't remove a layer of paint, so the frame keeps its appearance much longer than a surface-applied finish.

A screw-free design that can be disassembled and recycled

The most notable choice is the complete absence of screws. Nothing to lose at the bottom of a bag, nothing to loosen after a few weeks of use, and, above all, a pair that can be easily disassembled at the end of its life and sent for recycling without sorting out metal parts. The Lagoped logo is placed on the temples, and the range is also available in category 3 and polarized versions, depending on the terrain.

PERFORMANCES

Category 4 glasses

Category 4 lenses, for glaciers and very bright conditions

A sunglasses lens category indicates how much light it filters, on a scale from 0 to 4. The LAGOPEYE CAT4 comes with category 4 lenses, the darkest available: they’re designed for situations with very bright light, such as on a glacier, during a high-altitude race on snowy terrain, or on a day at sea, when the sun reflecting off snow and water can tire your eyes within a few hours. One important point: these lenses filter so much light that they must not be worn while driving. For more everyday use, hiking or in the city, the LAGOPEYE CAT3 is a better choice. The removable sun shield provides extra protection by blocking light coming in from the sides, where a glacier reflects the sun.

Frame made from recycled plastic, colored throughout, screw-free assembly

A recycled plastic frame, screw-free, dyed throughout

The LAGOPEYE frames are made from recycled plastic sourced from industrial plastic offcuts, and the sunglasses are made in France. Three design choices make them durable. First, they are dyed throughout: the color is not a coating applied to the surface, so it won't flake off from rubbing against the inside of a bag. Next, they are assembled without any screws, eliminating the weak point of hinges that come loose and making them easier to recycle at the end of their life. Finally, a removable sun shield protects the sides when light comes from all directions. The whole thing weighs just 28 g on your nose, light enough to forget about for an entire day.

Fit & support

A 28 g unisex design that disappears on your nose

LAGOPEYE CAT4 is a unisex frame available in one size, designed for wide coverage without squeezing your temples. The pair weighs 28 g: light enough to forget you're wearing them after two hours of climbing, and light enough to stay put when you lower your head on a technical section.

Removable side shields for changing terrain

The side shields come off with a single motion. Keep them on glaciers or broad snowfields, where light comes from all directions, and remove them on the approach under the trees or in town, where they're no longer useful. That way, the same pair works for your morning run and the return to the valley.
