EVE Homme Navy: the 3-layer jacket designed for mountaineering

On a climb, the weather gives no warning. A hut departure under clear skies can turn into wind-driven sleet before you even reach the technical section. EVE was designed for days like these, when you need to adjust your protection without taking off your pack.

A Sympatex membrane that keeps the weather out without overheating

Its 3-layer recycled polyester fabric combines with a Sympatex membrane rated at 20,000 mm hydrostatic head and RET breathability below 8. In other words: it stands up to driving rain and wet snow while letting the vapor produced during a sustained ascent escape.

Details tested in real conditions

The two zippered Napoleon pockets remain accessible when wearing a harness or backpack, the lift pass pocket on the left sleeve means you don't have to take off your gloves, and the large helmet-compatible hood adjusts at three points: the collarbones and the back of the head. Inside, there's a zippered pocket and a mesh pocket for skins or wet gloves. All seams are sealed with heat-applied tape, the pocket zippers are water-repellent 5 mm YKK Aquaguard Coil zippers, and the center zipper is a 5 mm double-slider YKK Aquaguard Vislon zipper.

PERFORMANCES

Sympatex membrane, 20,000 mm, RET < 8, recycled polyester

20,000 mm water column: what that means when it really pours

Water column measures the water pressure a fabric can withstand before a drop gets through. The EVE’s rating is 20,000 mm. In plain terms: you can stand in a downpour or wet snow, with your backpack straps pressing on your shoulders, and stay dry. This protection comes from the Sympatex membrane, a thin film sandwiched between the outer fabric and the lining. And because a waterproof jacket that doesn’t breathe quickly turns into a sauna, this membrane also wicks away sweat: its RET, the resistance-to-water-vapor-transfer rating, is below 8, compared with below 13 for our lightweight jackets. The lower the number, the more breathable the jacket. All seams are sealed with heat-bonded tape, and YKK Aquaguard zippers keep water out, even at the closures.

Side vents and two-way zipper: regulate without stopping

A breathable membrane is not enough when the slope steepens and the temperature rises under your jacket. EVE’s two side vents open while you’re climbing, with your harness and backpack on, to release excess heat in seconds without having to fully undress. The two-way front zipper serves the same purpose: unzip it from the bottom to ventilate your lower back without exposing your torso to the wind. Along with the wrist Velcro tabs and waist drawcords, it offers several adjustment options you can use while walking. The practical result: fewer stops to take off or put on a layer, and a 600 g jacket that stays on your back for much of the race.

EVE, the third layer of the Lagoped system

Did you know? The rock ptarmigan, our totem animal, changes its plumage with the seasons: white in winter to blend into the snow, it fluffs up its feathers when the cold sets in and smooths them down as soon as exertion warms it up. It constantly adapts, never wearing more than it needs.

EVE follows the same principle. It serves as the outer layer, the third layer: the one that blocks rain, snow, and wind while allowing perspiration to escape through its Sympatex membrane. It is worn over a second, insulating layer, either a grid fleece or a lightweight down jacket depending on the temperature, which itself sits over a first technical layer next to the skin. In mountaineering, it’s the piece you pull out of your pack when conditions turn and keep on until you get back.

Fit & support

Active Fit: a jacket designed to move with your layers

The EVE Homme comes in an Active Fit cut, meaning it’s semi-fitted: close enough to the body not to flap in the wind on a ridge, with enough room in the shoulders and armholes to fit a fleece or lightweight down jacket underneath without feeling restrictive when you raise your arms on a climbing move.

An adjustable fit on the move

The waist drawcords and wrist hook-and-loop tabs let you tighten or loosen the jacket throughout the day, even with gloves on. The two-way center zipper also opens from the bottom, so it won’t interfere with your harness.

A hood that moves with your head

The large hood fits over a helmet and adjusts at three points: the collarbones and the back of the head. It turns with your head without slipping off, a detail that matters when facing the wind in an exposed mountain pass.

Coupe Active Fit

SIZE GUIDE

Make your equipment last
