PHANTOM: the grid fleece designed for mountaineering

On a mountaineering route, your midlayer spends the day coping with temperature swings: you sweat on the approach, cool down at the first break, then set off again before you’ve dried. PHANTOM was built for that kind of pace, with 260 g/m² grid fleece that traps warm air next to your body without holding onto moisture.

Grid fleece that works with your effort

The grid’s honeycomb structure creates channels that let the vapor produced on the ascent escape, while the raised sections of fabric continue to insulate. The 8% elastane provides the stretch needed to reach overhead while climbing or lean over a pack without the garment riding up.

Understated finishes, field-tested

The full zip lets you regulate your temperature as you walk rather than stopping to remove a layer. The zippered chest pocket keeps essentials accessible whether you’re wearing a harness or carrying a pack, with a discreet YKK 3 mm coil zipper that’s easy to reach. The chest embroidery replaces a printed label that would eventually peel.

PERFORMANCES

260 g/m² grid fleece: warmth without the weight

Weighing in at 340 g with a 260 g/m² knit, PHANTOM falls into the lightweight fleece category - the kind you pack even when your bag is already full. The secret lies in its grid construction: instead of a solid, uniform fleece layer, the knit alternates insulating raised sections with breathable channels. The raised sections trap warm air against the skin, while the channels let vapor escape rather than condensing in the fabric. The result is a much better warmth-to-weight ratio than a classic fleece of the same thickness, and the garment dries quickly after a sustained climb. Recycled polyester does not absorb water, which helps limit that cold, damp feeling when you stop.

Full zip and chest pocket: regulate your temperature without stopping

The full-length center zip is the simplest way to regulate your temperature. Open it just a few centimeters to release excess heat at the start of a climb, without taking off your pack or removing a layer in the wind. Conversely, zipped all the way up to the collar, it blocks airflow at the summit. The zippered chest pocket, positioned high on the torso, stays accessible with a buckled harness or a strapped-on pack, keeping a map, phone, or energy bar within easy reach. The 3 mm YKK coil zipper was chosen for its low profile under a jacket, and the 8% elastane keeps the zipper from pulling when you contort yourself on a climbing move.

PHANTOM, the second layer in the Lagoped layering system

Did you know? The rock ptarmigan, our totem animal, changes its plumage with the seasons: white in winter to blend into the snow, it fluffs up its feathers to trap warm air when the temperature drops. It constantly adjusts its insulation, never wearing more than it needs.

PHANTOM fits precisely into this layering system as the mid layer, the second layer, whose role is to retain warmth while letting moisture from the body escape. It is worn over a technical base layer close to the skin, and under a waterproof, windproof outer layer when the weather turns. In dry, cold weather, it simply becomes the outermost layer.

Fit & support

Active Fit cut: a fleece that slips under a jacket without getting in the way

PHANTOM has an Active Fit cut that sits close to the body without feeling restrictive, designed to stay in place under a third layer for a full day of running.

Close to the body, but free at the shoulders

The torso is fitted to prevent bunching under a harness or backpack straps, while leaving enough room in the armholes to raise your arms while climbing. The elastane moves with you, and the knit returns to its shape after exertion.

Wear it on its own or layered

Over a lightweight base layer, it adds no uncomfortable bulk under a waterproof jacket. In dry weather, it can also be worn on its own, with the full zip open on a steep climb and closed again as soon as the wind picks up.

Coupe Active Fit

SIZE GUIDE

Make your equipment last
