DOHLE: the 1/2-zip microfleece designed as a technical midlayer

On an early-morning ridge run, the question is never whether you’ll get cold, but how quickly you’ll get too hot. DOHLE was made for that in-between zone: warm enough for a break at the belay, breathable enough to keep on during the climb.

Brushed knit on the inside, smooth on the outside

The fleece is brushed next to the skin, trapping warm air and providing an instantly soft feel, while staying smooth on the outside so it slides easily under a waterproof jacket or harness. At 250 g, it compresses into a corner of your pack without weighing you down on your outing.

Details that make a difference at the wrist and zipper

Thumb loops keep the sleeves in place when putting on a jacket or gloves, and prevent drafts between the wrist and the mitten. The 3 mm YKK center half-zip acts as a temperature regulator: open it a few centimeters on the climb, then zip it up to the collar as soon as the wind picks up. An embroidered heart signs off the piece, with no printed overlay.

PERFORMANCES

250 grams of warmth: the weight-to-insulation ratio of brushed knit fabric

DOHLE weighs 250 g, putting it in the category of microfleece layers you always pack, even when every gram counts on a day hike. This light weight doesn’t come at the expense of warmth: the brushed interior of the knit creates a layer of still air next to the skin, the very principle behind fleece insulation.

The other half of the equation is breathability. Knitted at 145 g/m2 for the body, the fabric lets moisture vapor produced during exertion pass through rather than trapping it against your back. Combined with the central 3 mm YKK half-zip, which lets you open the collar by a few centimeters, it prevents the classic overheating spike at the start of a climb and the need to stop and change clothes.

Thumbholes and 225 g/m² panel: ergonomic design for exposed areas

The thumbholes at the wrists address a real problem: sleeves riding up when you put on a jacket, then a draft between the glove and forearm on a windy ridge. Slip your thumb through the loop and the sleeve stays in place, with no cold spot where it meets the glove or mitten.

The panel, knitted at 225 g/m² compared with 145 g/m² for the rest of the garment, adds material where fleece works hardest and where a backpack rubs. It remains stretchy thanks to its 22% elastane, allowing the range of motion needed for a shoulder movement while climbing or handling a sail. Embroidery replaces printing, with no film or plastic overlay.

Did you know? The rock ptarmigan, our totem animal, changes its plumage with the seasons: it turns white in winter to blend into the snow and fluffs up its feathers to trap warm air. It constantly adjusts its insulation to the temperature, never wearing more than it needs.

DOHLE serves exactly this purpose in the layering system: it’s a midlayer, the second layer, trapping the heat generated by the body while allowing sweat to escape. It’s worn over a technical baselayer close to the body, and under a waterproof, windproof outer layer when the weather turns. In dry, mild weather, it works on its own as an outer layer, thanks to its smooth exterior finish.

Active Fit: a DOHLE microfleece that follows the body without feeling tight

DOHLE is cut in Active Fit, a close-fitting style designed for a woman’s body shape. It follows the torso and arms without billowing, preventing wrinkles under a backpack and protective jacket.

A layer to wear between two layers

The elastane in the main fabric and panels lets the garment stretch with a shoulder movement while climbing or a sailboarding motion, then return to its shape. It can be worn directly over a technical T-shirt or next to the skin, and fits under a waterproof jacket without adding bulk. Thumb loops keep the sleeves down when layering, while the half-zip lets you open the collar as soon as the temperature rises.
