With recycled polyester standing out as an alternative to polyester and offering significant potential to reduce the textile industry's ecological footprint, Lagoped has chosen to collaborate with Newlife, a recycled polyester yarn renowned for its technical qualities and especially its commitment to the circular economy. This alliance is based on shared values such as sustainability, eco-responsibility, technical performance, and comfort, positioning Lagoped and Newlife at the forefront of a more environmentally friendly fashion for consumers.

Why use polyester in the textile industry?

Polyester, a widely used synthetic polymer in the textile sector, is produced from non-renewable resources such as crude oil, coal, and natural gas. This versatile material is valued for its durability, ease of care, elasticity, and variety of styles and finishes.

However, it is crucial to note that polyester production involves significant energy consumption and generates considerable pollution. Faced with these environmental challenges, it becomes imperative to turn to sustainable alternatives. This is where recycled polyester comes in. By reusing existing materials rather than drawing from virgin resources, recycled polyester offers an eco-friendly solution to reduce the textile industry's carbon footprint.

Lagoped favors recycled polyester with Newlife™

The recycled polyester manufacturing process: forward with circularity!

Lagoped has partnered with the Italian brand Sinterama to introduce Newlife™, a recycled polyester, into our wardrobe. This innovative fiber is the result of a collaboration between two Piedmontese companies, Filature Miroglio and the Sinterama group, representing a Made in Italy innovation that already has several partners across Europe.

Newlife™ is 100% recycled polyester, made from the processing of plastic bottles collected through citizen recycling programs. PET, a thermoplastic polymer, is widely used to make plastic bottles, food packaging, textiles, and various products due to its transparency, lightness, and recyclability. It is among the most recycled plastics, where used bottles are collected, cleaned, shredded, and then transformed into reusable pellets, thus contributing to a circular economy and reducing plastic waste.

The Newlife™ yarn, exclusively processed and spun in Italy, gives these materials a second life, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and circularity. Thanks to a mechanical transformation process, the material maintains a performance and quality level equivalent to that of virgin yarn. Moreover, the company ensures the plastic is depolluted before recycling, thus guaranteeing high standards in ethics and environmental care.

Before being transformed into a high-quality and environmentally friendly fiber, PET plastic bottles are first collected empty. Collection takes place in northern Italy. Once collected, the plastic bottles are sorted by type and color and subjected to strict quality control methods, ensuring material purity. The selected bottles are then washed, disinfected, and mechanically shredded, turned into flakes ready to be processed. These flakes are then melted and spun to create recycled polyester yarns, which undergo texturizing, a thermal and friction process essential to give Newlife™ volume, elasticity, and functional characteristics similar to natural fibers. This meticulous process guarantees the superior quality and durability of each Newlife™ product, offering an ecological and responsible alternative in the textile industry.

Certified according to the most demanding sustainable textile standards, Newlife™ proudly carries the Global Recycle Standard, Oeko-Tex, and the Italian Institute of Ethical and Environmental Certifications labels. This eco-friendly fiber not only reduces the textile industry's carbon footprint but also intercepts plastic bottles right after their use, thus contributing to environmental preservation.

To illustrate the concrete impact of this initiative, know that thirty 1.5-liter bottles can produce up to one kilogram of recycled polyester. This statistic demonstrates the efficiency and potential of this innovative process, offering a viable solution to transform plastic waste into a valuable and sustainable resource.

Lagoped clothing, a high-performance and durable wardrobe thanks to Newlife™ fiber

The Newlife™ recycled polyester fiber, a premium quality fiber

Newlife™ recycled polyester yarn is a benchmark in sustainability and performance. This high-quality fiber is the preferred choice for a wide range of premium products, from fashion clothing to sports gear, including underwear, technical workwear, and even some upholstery textiles. Its versatility is fully expressed in high-end fabrics, offering the perfect combination of durability and quick drying, ideal for sports enthusiasts, especially nature and adventure lovers. Moreover, Newlife™ recycled polyester yarn features ideal properties for outdoor activities such as built-in UV protection, antibacterial action, quick drying, comfort, and excellent fit.

The positive environmental impact of Newlife™ recycled polyester fiber

Choosing recycled polyester yarn offers an undeniable positive environmental impact. Compared to virgin polyester, the production of recycled PET fibers is not only more energy-efficient but also more environmentally friendly. The savings are significant, with a 94% reduction in water consumption and a 60% reduction in energy use for the same production volume. Additionally, this approach helps preserve the environment by reducing carbon emissions by up to 32% compared to an equivalent amount of virgin polyester. Thus, opting for recycled polyester is a responsible and sustainable choice, contributing to the preservation of our planet while providing quality products.

In conclusion, Lagoped proudly positions itself as a pioneer of sustainability in the outdoor textile industry, thanks to our collaboration with Newlife™ and the use of its high-quality recycled polyester yarn. This partnership represents much more than a simple business association; it embodies our shared commitment to the circular economy and a more environmentally friendly future. By choosing our products made from recycled polyester, you actively contribute to reducing the textile industry's carbon footprint while enjoying an essential wardrobe for adventure, renewed every year.

However, it is crucial to remain vigilant about the potential risks related to plastic micro-particles. We therefore encourage our customers to consider adding an appropriate filter when washing their recycled polyester clothing to minimize their environmental impact. Together, by supporting brands committed to sustainability like Lagoped, we can make a real difference for our planet and future generations. Choose responsible and sustainable options for a better future for all.
