TETRAS: the 3-layer men’s jacket designed for demanding hikes and mountaineering

On an approach to a climb, the weather rarely gives you much warning. TETRAS was made for outings where you set off early under clear skies and finish the ascent in wind and cold rain, without wanting to stop to pull out another layer.

Full protection that doesn’t restrict movement

Waterproof 3-layer construction rated at 20,000 mm, windproof, with a RET breathability rating below 13 and a PFAS-free water-repellent treatment. All seams are sealed with heat-taped strips, the pockets have hydrophobic 3 mm YKK Aquaguard Coil zippers, and the main zipper is a sturdy 5 mm YKK Vislon that’s easy to operate with gloves.

Details tested with a pack and harness on

The two zippered handwarmer pockets remain accessible with a harness or pack belt on, the two underarm vents release heat on steep ascents, and the large helmet-compatible hood adjusts at three points: the collarbones and the back of the head. A drawcord at the waist and hook-and-loop wrist cuffs complete the fit.

PERFORMANCES

Sympatex membrane, 20,000 mm, RET < 13, recycled polyester

20,000 mm waterproofing and RET below 13: stay dry in the rain without overheating

20,000 mm is the height of the water column the fabric withstands before letting a single drop through: more than enough to handle several hours of driving rain with a backpack pressing on your shoulders, where a budget jacket starts to feel clammy around the shoulder straps. This waterproofing would stop short at the seams if they weren’t sealed with heat-taped seams throughout the jacket, and the pockets are secured with hydrophobic 3 mm YKK Aquaguard Coil zippers. Meanwhile, the RET breathability rating below 13 means that moisture produced during exertion escapes quickly: you can climb without feeling dampness build up between your base layer and the jacket.

Seams sealed with heat-applied tape

480 g, two underarm vents and a two-way zipper: regulate your temperature as you walk

At 480 g, this is the kind of jacket you keep in your pack even when the forecast looks good, because it doesn't weigh on your decision that morning. Once it's on, you can manage your temperature without stopping: the two underarm vents open on steep climbs, letting hot air escape just when you're producing the most, without exposing your torso. The 5 mm YKK Vislon center zipper, with two-way sliders, lets you vent from the bottom while keeping the collar closed against the wind, and its chunky teeth are easy to grip without taking off your gloves. Fewer stops to take layers off, more pace on the approach.

TETRAS, the third layer of the Lagoped system

Did you know? The lagopus, our totem animal, changes its plumage with the seasons: white in winter to blend in with the snow, it fluffs up its feathers as soon as the temperature drops. It adjusts its protection constantly, never wearing more than necessary.

TETRAS follows the same logic: it’s an outer layer, the third layer, designed to keep out rain and wind while letting sweat escape. It’s worn over a second, insulating layer—a fleece or lightweight down jacket, depending on the temperature—which in turn sits over a technical base layer next to the skin. During a sustained climb, you can unzip it or pack it away; at a break or the summit, it becomes the piece that keeps the whole system dry.

Fit & support

TETRAS Active Fit: room for layers, no flapping

TETRAS has an intermediate men's Active Fit cut, with room for a fleece or lightweight down jacket underneath without pulling at the shoulders or armholes, while avoiding fabric flapping in the wind on a ridge.

The waist drawcord and wrist Velcro tabs let you close up the jacket when the wind picks up or leave it open to breathe during exertion. The roomy hood fits over a helmet and adjusts at three points, at the collarbones and the back of the head: it follows your head when you turn instead of shifting and blocking your view. The two-way center zipper also lets you unzip from the bottom while your harness is still buckled.

Coupe Active Fit

SIZE GUIDE

Make your equipment last
