Written by: Lagoped

|

A day led by a high mountain guide to take a step forward: from alpine hiking to true autonomy in mountaineering. Refuge Lagoped partners with the Grenoble Guide Office for this mountain school designed for those who already practice F-level mountaineering and want to progress towards PD/AD.

The Grenoble Guide Office supervises this outing with a simple goal: to teach techniques that allow gaining autonomy in the field, not just ticking off a summit. Four people maximum per guide, for close supervision and individualized feedback throughout the day.

MOUNTAIN SCHOOL PROGRAM: THE ESSENTIALS

Before the outing

A day led by a high mountain guide to take a step forward: from alpine hiking to true autonomy in mountaineering. Refuge Lagoped partners with the Grenoble Guide Office for this mountain school designed for those who already practice F-level mountaineering and want to progress towards PD/AD.

The Grenoble Guide Office supervises this outing with a simple goal: to teach techniques that allow gaining autonomy in the field, not just ticking off a summit. Four people maximum per guide, for close supervision and individualized feedback throughout the day.

In the field

The day revolves around short-rope belaying, a key technique for moving efficiently on mixed terrain without losing time at each step. Participants learn to place their own protection points and set up an anchor, then proceed to rappel descent independently.

Risk management plays a central role: anticipating objective dangers of the terrain and knowing basic rescue techniques are part of the program. The day ends with the preparation and execution of a PD/AD level climb, a practical scenario that allows participants to concretely measure their progress.

A debriefing concludes the outing: review of the day and the safety choices made along the way.
