September 8, 2026 - Mountain School Guide Office Grenoble: even higher in summer mountaineering
|
|
This day is for climbers already comfortable at PD/AD level who want to take a step up to AD/D, under the supervision of a guide from the Grenoble Guide Office. The Lagoped Refuge supports this mountain school where the participant gradually takes on the role of lead climber, rather than just a follower.
The group is limited to three people per guide, a necessary condition for each person to truly make safety decisions in the moment, with the guide’s safety net in the background.
The day before the outing, a 40-minute video conference explains the chosen climb: route, weather, techniques, and necessary equipment.
The day focuses on moving belays, aiming for speed and adaptation to the terrain. It is also when the participant makes their own safety decisions, rather than just following given instructions.
The placement of belay points and anchors is thoroughly covered up to the independent installation of a rappel anchor. The day ends with the preparation and execution of a climb at AD/D level, with the participant taking on all or part of the lead climber role.
A debriefing concludes the outing, reviewing the day and safety management.
