Raphaële Charvet

Mountain guide and geologist

Raphaële is a mountain guide and geologist, two roles that she has worn with passion for over ten years.Driven since childhood by a deep need to "live up there," she naturally oriented her studies towards geology before settling in the mountains, where she specializes in natural risks (avalanches, landslides, permafrost, etc.). In winter, she mainly guides on skis, with a predilection for roaming raids, which she loves for the feeling of freedom they provide. She enthusiastically shares her experiences of "the great white" and has been training for 15 years with Anena. Very involved with the FFCAM and local associations, she also supports projects with young people or groups in training for autonomy. In close connection with the living and the elements, Raphaële lives in a high-altitude hamlet, her feet anchored in the Earth and her head often in the Sky. It is this same attachment to a raw and authentic nature that led her to meet Lagoped.

His background?

Since childhood, I have been driven by a deep need to "be up there," on the peaks. "When I grow up, I'll be a mountaineer!"

The thirst to explore, to wander in the wild nature, to "understand" the Earth also led me to my studies as a geologist. I came to live in the mountains as soon as I finished my studies, combining my job as a geologist and the mountains, specializing in natural risks in the mountains (avalanches, rock falls, landslides, torrential floods, glacial and periglacial risks).

Today, I work as a mountain guide and geologist.

His job?

What matters to me is what is shared through my work: what happens up there, and how the (high) mountain drops its masks, brings us back to the heart of what is essential, and perhaps is a source of transformation.

Concretely, I have a great winter season, on skis :-) especially in ski raids.

In this desire to wander, to discover mountain ranges, ski touring is for me a magnificent means of travel, freedom, exploration in this "great white", in the nearby or more distant mountain ranges, mainly in the Alpine arc.

I love sharing these adventures, sharing these experiences of the "great white", of silence, of feeling the elements, of making one's mark: listening to the wind, observing the variations in the snow, the lights, the changes in the weather..., predicting where the snow will be excellent for skiing!

  • Anena trainer for 15 years, I also organize snow and avalanche training sessions mainly in the middle of winter.

Otherwise, I work regularly with:

  • ffcam (departmental, regional committees, Lead The Climb): in supervision and training towards autonomy, and/or for future supervisors (supervision of departmental or regional teams, or ad hoc groups).
  • local associations (mountain camp with young people, etc.)
  • projects with personal clients

His relationship with the living and the mountains?

Through my guide/geologist background, I am very aware of the changing nature of the high mountain environment. I sometimes provide expert assessments in high mountains related to the degradation of permafrost, the appearance of glacial lakes, etc.

I have always felt very connected to the living, to the Earth. I live in the mountains, in a small hamlet perched high up.

My work is an extension of my deepest aspirations, connected to the Earth, firmly anchored, with my feet on the ground and very often my head in the sky. I feel close, inspired and "at home" in this nature which has not (or not too much) been modified by Man. Raw, simple, powerful.

Why the Lagoped Family?

I discovered Lagoped quite quickly when it was created. Authenticity, ethics, simplicity, local, made me curious to know a little more! and I met the team at trade shows, then in refuges in winter ;-) I have so far tested the ski pants, and this winter the jacket in conditions that were well worth it! thank you!
