Candice Debeaune 🇫🇷

My name is Candice and I am 27 years old. I was born near the Ecrins mountains, and was lucky to grow up surrounded by mountains and snow. I love it and I couldn't live without it. After studying sports, I turned to sports and mountain photography in Annecy. I have always shared the mountains with my friends. For over a year, I have been a member of a mountaineering training group with the FFCAM in Savoie. It's a great opportunity to learn, as it's a sport that can be difficult to get into.

What do you do for a living?

I am a sports and mountain photographer; one of my biggest dreams would be to photograph the Olympic Games and a high-mountain expedition in one of the steepest places. I'm gradually training for this in the French Alps and gained initial video experience in the Lyngen Alps.

What does the mountain represent for you?

I don't climb mountains for performance or competition. Therefore, I avoid complicated or unpleasant situations, even if I sometimes have to face them after making risky choices.

For me, the mountains are a familiar place where I feel good, where one thinks more simply and problems disappear.

What has the mountain taught you?

The mountains have taught me above all to know myself, to listen to myself, and to trust myself. I understood there that nothing is ever truly serious as long as you make it home.
Beyond the physical challenge, they taught me the strength of commitment to others. Roping up with someone is a human adventure where you place your life in your partner's hands and vice-versa.
I discovered how to push my body and mind beyond their usual limits, sometimes moving forward without sleep, by sheer willpower. That's the whole strangeness of this passion: despite the harshness of the effort and the moments when you swear you'll never go back, you always end up returning, irresistibly.
