Lagoped, a pioneering brand in the field of sustainability, has chosen to highlight recycled wool as an ecological and innovative alternative in the manufacturing of its clothing. With a deep commitment to eco-responsible, ethical and European production, Lagoped strives to use only sustainable materials in its wardrobe. Thus, recycled wool, resulting from a manufacturing process located in Tarn and clothes made in Italy, perfectly embodies this commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.

Why use wool in the textile industry?

Wool

Wool is a staple of the textile industry, and for good reason. Featuring exceptional thermal insulation capacity, it regulates body temperature by maintaining warmth in cold weather while allowing air to circulate to prevent sweat build-up in hot weather. Additionally, its ability to absorb moisture while remaining dry to the touch makes it an ideal choice for a diverse range of clothing, from thermal underwear to sweaters and scarves. Additionally, its natural resistance to wear ensures that wool clothing retains its shape and appearance for a long time, ensuring a long-lasting investment for consumers, especially athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.

Merino wool

Among the different varieties of wool, merino wool stands out for its exceptional quality, especially for sporting goods. Merino sheep produce some of the finest, softest and lightest wool among sheep breeds, making it totally suitable for a variety of clothing, including thermal underwear, socks and base layers for outdoor activities. Australia is the main producer.

However, despite its many qualities, intensive production of merino wool poses risks to the environment and animal welfare. Intensive livestock farming can lead to land degradation, excessive water consumption and the production of greenhouse gases. Additionally, ethical concerns are raised about the welfare of sheep raised for their wool. To address these challenges, some companies in the textile industry are working to improve the sustainability of merino wool production, but eco-conscious consumers can choose alternatives considered more sustainable to minimize the environmental impact of their choices clothing. This is where Lagoped's choices take on their full meaning: we produce some of our clothing using recycled wool, to provide our customers with the comfort and warmth of wool, without creating new pressure on the wool production.

Recycled wool

Recycled wool plays a crucial role in promoting sustainability and reducing the environmental footprint of the textile industry. Produced from wool fibers recovered from used textiles or production waste, it helps reduce the amount of textile waste sent to landfills, providing a solution to waste management. Additionally, the production of recycled wool requires fewer natural resources compared to the production of virgin wool. Less land, water and energy are used, helping to preserve natural resources.

Recycled wool offers similar performance and quality to virgin wool, retaining the insulating, breathable and soft properties associated with wool. By promoting the use of recycled materials, recycled wool represents an important step towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly textile industry.

Park spinning mills

Lagoped is proud to collaborate with Filatures du Parc, a company specializing in the manufacturing of yarns made from natural and recycled materials. Based in Brassac, in Tarn, this family spinning mill founded in 1975 has stood out for its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy. With a team of around thirty people, the company has strengthened its research and development activities, particularly in the field of recycled materials, which today represent 80% of its activity. Thanks to innovative processes, Filatures du Parc has managed to develop its own fraying machine, making it possible to recover textile fibers from worn clothing, whether they are scraps from garments or textiles that have reached the end of their life. This unique approach, combined with a constant concern for quality, has allowed the company to develop a 100% recycled yarn, GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certified, guaranteeing the traceability of raw materials and compliance with environmental and social standards.

In fact, Filatures du Parc's recycled yarns are not only environmentally friendly, but they are also up to 98% less impactful than yarns made from new materials, thus contributing to a significant saving of water and of energy. Thanks to their commitment to sustainability and innovation, Filatures du Parc have become a partner of choice for Lagoped, offering recycled wool yarn, thus meeting the criteria for manufacturing Lagoped clothing: from recycled materials and sourced in Europe.

By highlighting recycled wool as an ecological and innovative alternative in the manufacturing of its clothing, Lagoped perfectly embodies its commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation. Thanks to strategic partnerships with companies like Filatures du Parc, which share the same ethical and environmental values, Lagoped is part of an eco-responsible and ethical production approach. By using recycled wool, Lagoped not only offers high quality clothing, but also contributes to the reduction of textile waste and the preservation of natural resources. This approach, combining tradition and innovation, shows the way towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly fashion industry.
