Lagoped, French outdoor brand of clothing made in Europe
Lagoped designs mountain and outdoor clothing made to last: each piece is entirely manufactured in Europe, free of PFAS, and guaranteed for 5 years. This commitment, upheld since the brand’s creation in Haute-Savoie, guides every material choice and assembly.
Lagoped was born in 2018 at the foot of the Alpine ranges, in a region where the mountains set their own standards: a jacket must withstand a wind-swept collar, hiking pants must endure multiple seasons on trails without tearing. The brand designs its men’s and women’s collections for hiking, trail running, mountaineering, ski touring, gravel biking, and climbing, with a constant goal: to offer technical clothing that truly meets these uses, rather than generic pieces adapted afterward for the outdoor market.
For Lagoped, manufacturing in Europe is not limited to the final sewing stage. From spinning to final assembly, the majority of production takes place in Europe, allowing close monitoring of each step and ensuring a consistent level of finish from one collection to the next. This industrial organization, more costly than typical offshoring, has been a deliberate choice since the brand’s first pieces.
Since its founding in 2018, Lagoped has never used PFAS in its clothing. These per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, nicknamed “forever pollutants” because they do not degrade in the environment and are linked to endocrine disruption, are traditionally used in the outdoor sector to treat fabric surfaces to make them waterproof or water-repellent. Lagoped rejected this technique from its very first pieces, without waiting for regulatory pressure.
The French law passed on February 27, 2025, bans the manufacture and marketing of clothing containing PFAS from January 1, 2026, with exceptions for military and firefighting gear. Lagoped anticipated this deadline long before it became mandatory, at a time when most industry players were just beginning to discuss it.
Technically, the waterproofing of Lagoped jackets relies on the Sympatex membrane, a German partner that designs waterproof and breathable membranes without fluorinated treatments. The difference lies at a level the wearer does not directly see: rather than a chemical layer applied to the fabric surface, the membrane’s very structure blocks water while allowing vapor produced by exertion to escape. On down jackets, the water-repellent effect of the recycled down or wadding comes from a mechanical treatment of the fibers, without chemical finishes. Unlike brands that gradually reduce their PFAS use to approach this standard, Lagoped simply never had this starting point to correct.
Recycled materials play a central role in the collections: recycled cotton, recycled polyester, recycled polyamide, recycled wool, with origins documented by country of production. Lagoped was also the first French and European textile brand to publish the PEF eco-score across its entire range, an indicator based on 16 environmental criteria rather than just the carbon footprint.
Technical clothing is only valuable if it lasts. Lagoped guarantees its products for 5 years and offers a repair service rather than replacement, to limit unnecessary renewal of an outdoor wardrobe. This approach aligns with the same reasoning behind choosing recycled materials: reducing a garment’s impact first requires making it last, since most of that impact occurs during raw material extraction.
