Reduce our impact on the environment

To help us daily in our choice of materials for our clothing, we return to the first idea of Lagoped: the sobriety of the bird. And this sobriety translates into reducing our pressure on Nature. Concretely, to achieve this, we have decided not to use materials from extraction. This implies excluding natural materials (from agriculture or livestock) or virgin synthetic materials (oil industry) and favoring the recycling of waste for the manufacture of our clothing.

It is a strong and structuring choice that allows us to preserve water and arable land, avoid deforestation and limit greenhouse gas emissions. We explain to you how we measure our impacts using the PEF method of the European eco-score.

To reduce our “invisible” impact we use water-repellent products and membranes that do not contain fluorinated compounds (“PFCs”) which are classified as endocrine disruptors. A current subject with a recent film which recounts the trial in the United States of a company accused of having poisoned a community with these products ( Dark Waters with Mark Ruffalo and Anne Hathaway, 2019).

For our technical clothing, we have opted for the Sympatex membrane which does not contain fluorinated compounds unlike other membranes and which offers excellent mechanical qualities (windproofing, waterproofing and ventilation). And what's more, it is recycled, recyclable and made in Europe.

Recycling makes it possible to absorb the stock of materials already in circulation and significantly reduce impacts. For example, 1KG of recycled cotton makes it possible to make 6 T-shirts which will avoid (source: AITEX, Universitat de Valencia and UNESCO):

- the cultivation of 10m2 of arable land,
- the use of 15,000 liters of water (120 5-minute showers)
- the emission of 23kg of greenhouse gas emissions (around 200KM with a small petrol car which
consumes 6.5L/100KM and emits 125g)

For its part, recycled wool makes it possible to reduce environmental impacts by 98% compared to traditional wool (source: Systèmes Durables and EVEA Conseil).

Finally, we are committed to the end of life of our clothes. With our supplier Sympatex® we are beginning the experiment which aims to make thread from our technical clothing ( Wear2Wear program ). Circularity is becoming a reality and is no longer quite a distant dream.

You become actors in a circular economy and, together, we use resources already available and we reduce our impact on nature.
