Themes: biology, conservation, evolution, climate
In the misty bamboo forests of Kanchenjunga hides the Himalayan red panda. This species is the ambassador of all the wildlife threatened by climate change and habitat degradation in this region spanning India, Nepal, Bhutan and China. With only 2,500 individuals left in the wild, biologists are trying to learn more about this species and set up a conservation program with the help of local populations.

Themes: biology, chemistry, physics, global warming
It's a microscopic algae that lives... in the snow! Sanguina nivaloides, its scientific name, can be seen in the spring when it tints the snow blood red. Head to the Lautaret pass in the Alps, where biologists and physicists explain how snow turns out to be an astonishing ecosystem in which life plays a major role.

Themes: agropastoralism, livestock breeding, cohabitation
Rasco was born in Savoie but it is in the Drôme that he will accomplish his mission: to protect livestock during predator attacks. There are now more than 5,000 livestock protection dogs like him in France. How are these guardians raised and trained to properly protect livestock, in the mountains as well as near villages?

The Lauzanier Valley, in the Mercantour National Park, is home to the southernmost plants in the Alps. Forty years ago, the Queen of the Alps, the emblematic flower of this region, almost disappeared. A real scientific program was deployed to study its dynamics within the mountain pastures; to allow dialogue between shepherds, guards and owners; and to ensure its preservation.
To learn while walking, go well surrounded with a scientist and a mountain guide during a Montagnes & Sciences hike. Discover the fascinating worlds of fauna, wild flora, geology, landscapes... for one or more days.
