Layer system

Did you know? The ptarmigan—our totem animal—changes its plumage with the seasons: white in winter to blend into the snow, and it puffs up its feathers to trap air and protect itself from the cold. SUMSNOOD is inspired by this seasonal intelligence: light, thin, breathable, designed for warmer weather.
To enjoy your favorite activity whatever the weather, here's the basics: layering.

The 1st layer (base layer) must be breathable, to wick perspiration away from the body. This is the category SUMSNOOD belongs to.

The 2nd layer (mid-layer) is insulating; it retains warmth.

The 3rd layer (outer layer) protects against the elements: waterproof, breathable, windproof.

By building your outfit according to this system, you gain comfort and versatility: during exertion, you remove the mid-layer; when you stop, you put it back on. In short, layering is essential.

Manufacture

We like to say that we make our mountain clothing with you in mind. Since the creation of Lagoped, we have been constantly communicating with professionals and enthusiasts to improve each piece.

Here's how SUMSNOOD comes to life:

Printing — sublimation. A pretty term for a physical phenomenon: the direct transition from a solid to a gaseous state, without passing through a liquid state. We first print the patterns on special paper, which we then place on the fabric before passing it all between two large heated rollers (the calender). Under the effect of heat and pressure, the ink migrates directly into the fiber — without smudging, without polluting water baths. (One small condition: only fabrics with a high percentage of polyester can be sublimated.)

The fabric itself. The polyester yarn is recycled in Italy, then knitted in France. The elastane (which provides the stretch) comes from Asia: we “cover” it, meaning we slide it inside the recycled polyester yarn to form the core of the final yarn.

Assembly. Sublimation and final manufacturing take place in Lithuania.

Circular economy

SUMSNOOD is made largely from recycled plastic bottles. The process is simple, but it makes all the difference: the bottles are collected, washed, crushed, then melted down to produce flakes. These flakes are then spun into the Newlife polyester (r-PET) you wear around your neck. A material that could have ended up in a landfill—or worse, in the ocean—is instead spending several summers on the trails with you. A second life, in short.

Composition

* 110 gsm fabric

* 73% Newlife® recycled polyester (r-PET) — made in Italy

* 27% elastane — made in Asia

* Knitted in France

Care

To take care of your SUMSNOOD:

Machine wash at 30°C, with standard detergent (not too much, and if it's eco-friendly, even better!)
