PTARMIGAN2: the technical stretch pants for demanding hikes

On a trail that turns steep, then across a slab where you need to lift your leg high, you can judge a pair of pants in just a few steps. PTARMIGAN2 was designed for freedom of movement, with 4-way stretch recycled polyamide fabric weighing 175 g/m² that moves with your leg instead of holding it back.

Ripstop reinforcement where it really rubs

The seat, thighs, and knees feature 200 g/m² stretch, water-repellent ripstop panels, covering the three areas that take the brunt of rock, harness friction, and impromptu rests on a ridge. The rest of the pants stays lightweight at 290 g and offers welcome UPF 50+ protection on a glacier or a sunlit snowfield crossing.

Pockets designed for movement

Two hand pockets, a patch pocket on the right thigh, and another on the right seat, all zipped: your phone and map stay put even when downclimbing. The belt loops and signature Cousin Trestec cord secure the pants without creating pressure points under a harness.

PERFORMANCES

Water-repellent ripstop panels: reinforcement exactly where wear occurs

The main fabric of the pants is 175 g/m² stretch knit, deliberately lightweight to let air through and keep you breathing on the climb. At the seat, thighs, and knees, Lagoped switches to 200 g/m² stretch ripstop, a fabric with a grid weave that stops a snag on the rock from turning into a tear. These panels also have a fluorine-free water-repellent treatment, meaning no PFAS: moisture from wet grass or a damp slab beads up instead of settling on the areas you sit on. The result is a pair of pants that holds up on granite or limestone without the weight of work pants, just 290 g in total.

UPF 50+ and recycled ECONYL polyamide: lightweight on the ascent, protected in full sun

At 2,500 meters, on a snowfield or an exposed ledge, UV exposure is far harsher than in the valley, and your legs stay uncovered for hours. PTARMIGAN2’s knit fabric offers UPF 50+, blocking most UV rays that pass through and sparing you from having to choose between covering up and overheating. The same fabric is made from recycled ECONYL polyamide, sourced from waste such as fishing nets and textile scraps, and combined with Lycra XTRA-LIFE elastane, for a total of 74% recycled material. A breathable, lightweight, durable fabric, rather than virgin material extracted for the occasion.

PTARMIGAN2, the first leg layer in the Lagoped system

Did you know? The ptarmigan, our totem animal, changes its plumage with the seasons: white in winter to blend into the snow, it fluffs up its feathers to retain heat when temperatures drop. It constantly adjusts its protection, never wearing more than necessary.

PTARMIGAN2 works the same way on the lower body: it serves as a base layer, staying in contact with the skin, wicking away moisture from exertion, and allowing the legs to move freely. In dry, warm weather, it’s all you need from trailhead to summit. When the wind picks up or rain sets in, pair it with waterproof overpants worn on top. Its close-fitting cut keeps the extra layer from feeling bulky.

Fit & support

PTARMIGAN2 Active Fit pants: close-fitting without ever restricting leg movement

PTARMIGAN2 comes in an Active Fit cut, a close-fitting men’s style that follows the leg without squeezing, designed for wide-ranging movements on technical hikes and climbs.

Four-way stretch

The fabric stretches both widthwise and lengthwise, making all the difference for a long stride, a high step, or a wide step down while climbing: the pants spring back into place instead of staying taut across the thigh. Lycra XTRA-LIFE elastane helps prevent the fabric from losing its stretch after several days of wear.

Easy waist adjustment

The belt loops accommodate an additional strap, and the signature Cousin Trestec drawcord lets you adjust the waist throughout the day, even with a pack or harness on over the pants.

Coupe Active Fit

SIZE GUIDE

Make your equipment last
