RYPA: the full-zip fleece designed for mountaineering

On a ridge climb, a fleece often stays on your back all day: it needs to keep you warm when you stop without making you overheat on the ascent, and withstand the rubbing of your backpack. RYPA was designed around this balance, with 300 g/m² fleece featuring a wool-like finish and technical panels where rain and wind hit first.

Dense warmth that lasts when you stop

The thick recycled polyester fleece traps warm air against your body during belay and rest stops, when your body cools down quickly. The raised collar covers the back of your neck, and the YKK coil front zipper lets you regulate your temperature with one hand, even with gloves on.

Details right where you need them

Two zippered hand-warmer pockets warm your fingers without risking the loss of anything you put inside, while the hook-and-loop chest pocket stays accessible with a snug harness or backpack on. Waterproof panels on the shoulders protect the areas most exposed to backpack straps and passing showers.

PERFORMANCES

300 g/m² fleece with a lambswool finish: warmth without bulk

RYPA gets its warmth from 300 g/m² recycled polyester fleece, a substantial weight that makes this more of a warm mid-layer than a lightweight active fleece. The lambswool-style finish creates a looped surface that traps air inside the garment: it’s this still layer of air, not the fabric’s raw thickness, that makes the difference when you stop at a checkpoint or pull your hands out of your bag at the summit.

Polyester retains this performance even when slightly damp and dries quickly once you’re back inside, which is useful over several days of racing. All this in a reference size weighing 490 g.

Sympatex 20,000 Schmerber shoulder panels: protection where it's needed

Rather than making the entire fleece waterproof, which would have made it heavier and less breathable, the shoulders feature a recycled polyester panel with a Sympatex membrane, rated at 20,000 Schmerber and an RET of under 14. In practice, this is the area exposed to wet snow, drips from overhangs, and the damp rubbing of backpack straps: it stays protected while the rest of the garment continues to wick away sweat.

The fabric also has a fluorine-free water-repellent treatment, meaning no PFAS, which makes water bead on the surface instead of soaking into the material. A brief shower no longer means you have to pull your jacket out of your bag.

RYPA, the second layer in the Lagoped system

Did you know? The rock ptarmigan, our totem animal, changes its plumage with the seasons: white in winter to blend in with the snow, it fluffs up its feathers to trap warm air when the temperature drops. It constantly adapts, never wearing more than it needs.

RYPA plays exactly this role in the layering system: as the mid-layer, the second layer, it provides insulation. It is worn over a breathable base layer next to the skin, and under a waterproof outer layer when the weather turns bad. Its reinforced shoulder panels also let it be worn on its own as an outer layer in cold, dry weather, so you can avoid adding a jacket as long as the weather holds.

Fit & support

RYPA Regular Fit: fleece designed to fit under a jacket

RYPA comes in a Regular Fit, a straight cut that leaves room at the shoulders and under the arms without hanging loose around the torso. This men's version is designed to be worn directly over a technical base layer and to fit under a waterproof jacket without feeling restrictive.

The full-length front zipper lets you put it on or take it off without disturbing your helmet or harness, and unzip it partway on the climb when you start to warm up. The raised collar fastens high around the nape, clear of the pack strap. The shoulder panels, which are less flexible than the fleece, are positioned to follow arm movements while climbing without restricting your range of motion.

Coupe Regular

Coupe intermédiaire à travers le buste, avec assez d'aisance pour superposer une couche technique en dessous sans compression. Les manches gardent une bonne liberté de mouvement pour les activités outdoor du quotidien, de la randonnée aux sorties en montagne.
