A sublime two-day ski mountaineering loop in the Mont-Blanc massif, told by Benjamin de Molliens, eco-adventurer and member of the Lagoped Family.
On the program: Mont Tondu and the legendary Dômes de Miage.
A brief look back at a magical race completed at the end of March 2026 in the Mont-Blanc massif.
When Olivier Fichou, photographer, future guide, and Lagoped ambassador like me, writes in the ambassadors’ WhatsApp group: “Who’s up for a ski mountaineering race on March 29-30?”, I don’t take long to respond. Paul Romiée, another team member who notably crossed the entire Pyrenees on ski touring, also confirms. So, the three of us will take on this challenge.
The dates are set, and the goal quickly takes shape: crossing the legendary Dômes de Miage, in the Mont-Blanc massif. A race that has long been a dream of mine, because when I was younger, my father already told me about his mountaineering adventures there.
Despite the wind, the severe cold, and the heavy snowfalls forecasted at the end of March, we keep the project going.
Meet at 6 a.m. at the Cugnon parking lot, in Contamines-Montjoie. It’s cold, but the sky is perfectly clear. We start with skis on our backs. The first meters are done by carrying them, through the forest. After 400 meters of elevation gain, the snow becomes sufficient to finally put on the skis.
The pace is slowly settling in. The scenery is already magnificent. We take advantage of these first switchbacks to get to know each other better, the three of us.
The ascent is just beginning. To discover the full story of this dizzying crossing, the technical details of the route, and Benjamin's impressions at the top of the ridges, find the entire adventure on his blog.
