BARTAVELLE SS: the upcycled cotton checked short-sleeve shirt for hot days

There are summer outings when all you ask of a garment is not to draw attention: let air through, dry quickly, and still look presentable when you sit down on a terrace after a walk. BARTAVELLE SS was designed for days like these.

A 75 g/m² fabric that lets your skin breathe

Its 75 g/m² checked fabric made from upcycled cotton is deliberately lightweight. The result: it weighs just 94 g and won’t stick to your back as soon as the temperature rises, whether you’re on an exposed hiking trail, on a boat deck in full sun, or between appointments in town.

Simple details, designed for everyday use

The short sleeves and seven buttons let you open the collar wide when it gets hot, then fasten it neatly in the evening. The chest pocket, topped with an embroidered logo, stays accessible even with a backpack on your shoulders: just the spot for a folded map, a ticket, or a pair of glasses.

PERFORMANCES

75 g/m² fabric and 94 g on the scales: the lightness that makes all the difference in summer

For a summer shirt, the fabric weight says almost everything. Here, the fabric weighs 75 grams per square meter, about half as much as a classic cotton shirt. In practical terms, the whole shirt weighs just 94 grams: less than an apple, so you can roll it up and tuck it into the bottom of your bag without ever wondering whether it’s worth the space it takes up. This lightness is most noticeable when you’re walking: the fabric stays off your skin, air circulates, and moisture wicks away instead of building up on your back. That lets you keep the sleeves and collar closed against the sun on an exposed stretch, rather than exposing yourself directly. The trade-off is that fabric this thin doesn’t block the wind: in cool weather, wear it with an extra layer.

Upcycled French deadstock cotton: a fabric that already existed

Most of a garment’s impact happens before it’s even sewn, when the fiber is produced. BARTAVELLE SS sidesteps this step: its 100% upcycled cotton check fabric was sourced from deadstock in France, meaning fabric that had already been woven and dyed, and was waiting for a use. No additional cotton crops, no new dyeing, and not a liter of water used to produce it. When worn, you get the best of cotton: a soft feel that doesn’t itch against the skin, good sweat absorption, and a drape that develops character with every wash. The seven buttons and chest pocket with embroidered logo complete a simple piece, made to last rather than just for a season.

BARTAVELLE SS, the summer base layer of the Lagoped layering system

Did you know? The rock ptarmigan, our totem animal, changes its plumage with the seasons: white in winter to blend in with the snow, it fluffs up its feathers when the cold sets in and smooths them down again as soon as the weather warms up. It constantly adjusts its insulation without ever wearing more than it needs.

BARTAVELLE SS follows the same principle in warm weather. It acts as an inner layer, the first layer, worn directly against the skin to manage moisture. Its 75 g/m² upcycled cotton absorbs perspiration and lets air circulate as the temperature rises. As soon as it gets cooler, it becomes the base of the system: add a second insulating layer over it, such as a lightweight fleece or warm jacket, then a windproof outer layer if the weather turns.

Fit & support

BARTAVELLE SS regular fit: a men's short-sleeved shirt that hangs straight without feeling tight

BARTAVELLE SS has a regular fit, designed for men to follow the silhouette without clinging. The shoulders stay crisp, the torso has room to move, and the fabric doesn't stick to your stomach when you sit down or wear a backpack.

This roominess is intentional: with a summer shirt, airflow between the fabric and your skin makes all the difference to comfort in hot, humid weather. The short sleeves fall to mid-arm, leaving the elbow completely free, which is useful for adjusting backpack straps or trimming a sail. Wear it on its own against the skin on hot days, or open over a T-shirt when the evening cools down. It also works tucked into trousers or worn untucked.

Coupe Regular

Coupe intermédiaire à travers le buste, avec assez d'aisance pour superposer une couche technique en dessous sans compression. Les manches gardent une bonne liberté de mouvement pour les activités outdoor du quotidien, de la randonnée aux sorties en montagne.
