Saving the red pandas

Directed by: Andrew Tkach - 31 min (2024)

Themes: biology, conservation, evolution, climate

In the misty bamboo forests of Kanchenjunga hides the red panda of the Himalayas. This species is the ambassador of all wildlife threatened by climate change and habitat degradation in this region straddling India, Nepal, Bhutan, and China. With only 2,500 individuals left in the wild, biologists are trying to better understand this species and set up a conservation program with the help of local communities.

The blood of glaciers

Directed by: Sonia Collavizza - 7 min (2023)

Themes: biology, chemistry, physics, global warming

It’s a microscopic alga that lives... in the snow! Sanguina nivaloides, its scientific name, can be seen in spring when it colors the snow blood red. Heading to the Lautaret Pass in the Alps, where biologists and physicists explain how snow turns out to be an amazing ecosystem in which life has its full place.

Rasco and us (excerpts)

Directed by: Axel Falguier - 11 min (2022)

Themes: agropastoralism, livestock farming, coexistence

Rasco was born in Savoie but it is in Drôme that he will fulfill his mission: protecting livestock during predator attacks. There are now more than 5,000 livestock guardian dogs like him in France. How are these guardians raised and trained to effectively protect livestock, both in the mountains and near villages?

Queen of the Alps Operation

Produced by: Olivier Gouix - 4 min (2023)

Themes: biology, agro-pastoralism, conservation, biodiversity

The Lauzanier Valley, in the Mercantour National Park, is home to the southernmost plants of the Alps. Forty years ago, the Queen of the Alps, the emblematic flower of this region, nearly disappeared. A true scientific program was launched to study its dynamics within the alpine pastures; facilitate dialogue between shepherds, rangers, and landowners; and ensure its preservation.
