The basics: Why is the first layer essential in the mountains?

To fully enjoy your favorite activity, regardless of the weather, the golden rule remains the layering system. It's the foundation of all technical outdoor gear, and especially in winter.

At Lagoped, we like to equip you with comfort and versatility. Here's a quick reminder of the role of each layer:

  • Layer 1 (Inner Layer): Breathable. This is the layer in direct contact with the skin. Its role is to be breathable and to wick away perspiration and moisture to the outside of the garment to keep you dry. The TYTO T-shirt, a thermal base layer, falls into this category.

  • Layer 2 (Intermediate layer): Insulating. Its purpose is to retain the heat emitted by the body and to provide thermal insulation.

  • Layer 3 (Outer layer): Protective. It withstands the elements (wind, rain, snow). It must be waterproof, breathable, and windproof.

By layering your outfit with this system, you can adjust your insulation: remove the mid-layer during intense activity and put it back on when you stop. In short, layering is the key to comfort.

TYTO: the woolly ally inspired by our totem

To face the winter of 2026, we have designed TYTO , our new technical baselayer t-shirt, for men and women .

We were inspired by our spirit animal, the ptarmigan. Did you know? In winter, the ptarmigan changes its plumage to white, blending in with the snow. It also fluffs up its feathers for maximum insulation against the cold.

The TYTO t-shirt draws inspiration from nature's ingenuity: thanks to its 100% wool fiber knit, it provides exceptional natural thermoregulation . Wool is renowned for keeping you dry for a long time, even during exertion, while ensuring the comfort of a naturally stretchy fabric. Our teams have field-tested and approved it.

The details that make the difference:

  • Composition: main fabric 100% wool (145g/m²)

  • Cut: raglan sleeves for greater freedom of movement.

  • Comfort: discreet and ergonomic thumb loops.

  • Technical features: stretch mesh panel (87% recycled polyamide, 13% elastane) on the sides for targeted ventilation.

  • Weight: 180g (size M).

TYTO vs. ROKA : Our TYTO thermal T-shirt is distinct from the ROKA, our other long-sleeved base layer. Thanks to its synthetic fibers, the ROKA is better suited to extremely intense mid-season activities requiring very fast drying and maximum breathability. The TYTO emphasizes warmth and long-lasting thermal comfort thanks to its upcycled wool.

Our commitment to this baselayer: Zero virgin resources thanks to upcycling

At Lagoped, we like to say that we make our mountain clothing with you and with minimal impact .

For the TYTO t-shirt, the process was a little different than usual: we chose to rescue a material destined for destruction to create a garment without consuming a single new natural resource. This is the principle of upcycling and utilizing dormant stock.

TYTO's main fabric is a high-quality wool knit that was dormant stock . That is to say, surplus production, fabric that was "languishing in a warehouse" without an initial intended use, but perfectly suited to our need: to create a thermoregulating base layer t-shirt.

Why did we choose to upcycle wool for this product? Wool is an incredibly high-performing natural fiber, but it's difficult to recycle for reuse as a base layer (it's often blended with synthetic fibers). Upcycling this dormant stock is therefore an excellent alternative that allows us to achieve 100% wool without using virgin resources.

By manufacturing in this way, in partnership with committed players like feat coop , we further drastically limit our environmental impact, because the raw material already exists.

feat coop x Lagoped: A story of traceability and values

feat coop is a committed initiative born in 2020 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Founded by Tim and Tristan, childhood best friends, joined by Pauline in January 2022 , this cooperative has set itself the mission of fighting against industrial textile waste by reviving dormant stocks .

Following the success of its first showroom in Lyon, feat coop has opened its second showroom in Paris, at 19 rue de Rocroy, Paris 10th. Dedicated to all professionals who use textiles, this new showroom will allow them to offer direct and personalized access to a unique selection of French, responsible and traceable textiles, from manufacturers' dormant stocks.

To respect the environment and your health, Lagoped makes no compromises. This partnership with feat coop, which works to give a second life to surplus textiles, has allowed us to guarantee complete traceability:

Main fabric: wool from dormant stock in France, knitted and dyed in France, zero virgin resources consumed.

Side fabric (mesh): Regenerated polyamide from Slovenia made from nylon waste (fishing nets, fabric scraps). Knitting and dyeing in Italy. Use of marine and industrial waste.

Assembly: Lithuania, short supply chain and European know-how.

CARE FOR YOUR TECHNICAL T-SHIRT

To respect the environment and ensure a long life for your technical t-shirt:

  • Machine wash it on a wool cycle (30°C) .

  • Use a natural laundry detergent.

  • Dry it in the open air.

In short

Dormant stock, what is it? Stocks of fabrics that lie dormant in warehouses, originating from production surpluses, order cancellations or non-conformities.

feat coop, a Lyon-based cooperative, created in 2020 whose mission is to give a second life to dormant stocks.

Fabric traceability is essential for analyzing the life cycle of a garment. This involves knowing its composition, weight, stock history, and origin.
